What is Mindfulness-Based Wellness and Pedagogy (MBWP)?
Mindfulness-Based Wellness and Pedagogy (MBWP) is an approach to arts education and performance that uses mindful awareness and related practices to improve teaching, learning, personal wellness, and creative expression. Our instructors provide training and education through group classes, workshops, and individualized coaching. MBWP teachers are experienced educators, artists, scholars, and mindfulness practitioners, and are enrolled in or have completed MBWP teacher certification through our program. Meet our teachers.
What is our curriculum?
The MBWP curriculum is grounded on the belief that scientific research, meditative traditions, and philosophical inquiry all contribute to developing meaningful, relevant, and ethical frameworks for teaching and practicing mindfulness. Therefore, ours is an evolving curriculum, responsive to the needs of students, sensitive to context, and open to change and exploration. Learn more about our curriculum.
What do we mean by mindfulness?
In the MBWP approach, we define mindfulness as an orientation to experience that is purposeful, non-judgmental, and present-centered. As this capacity strengthens, we gain insight into habits of mind and behavior that prevent us from acting purposefully, wisely, and with kindness toward ourselves as others. Ultimately, these skills and insights serve as a foundation for reframing our experience, allowing us to approach our lives and work in healthier and more beneficial ways.
